Volunteering

I want to volunteer for...

Volunteer for Marmalade Connections

Volunteers are at the heart of all we do at Marmalade Trust. As a Marmalade Connections volunteer, you'll play a vital role in empowering people experiencing loneliness to make new connections in their community.

What is Marmalade Connections?

Marmalade Connections is a time-limited, phone-based service supporting people to form lasting connections in their community. Volunteers receive training to make a weekly phone call to project members, focusing on their specific needs and interests. These conversations lead to volunteers signposting project members to local social activities and community support, to improve their social connections long term. Learn more about this life-changing project >

This project runs for up to 15 weeks on a rolling basis and we are delighted to be accepting volunteer applications for 2025.

1

Once you have completed the online application form, look out for an email from our team who will be in touch.

3

Once checks are finalised, you'll gain access to our online Connections Hub. You'll also be invited to attend our online training sessions.

2

We'll ask you to send us:

- two references

- a photo ID

- information for your DBS check

4

We'll match you with a project member who is waiting for support, and you will begin making calls.

Full training will be provided before you begin making calls. We expect the time investment to encompass:

  • 2 x one hour training sessions (online via MS Teams)

  • Approximately 30 minutes a week spent talking on the phone to your project member

  • 30 minutes a week researching activity groups in their area - we have resources to help with this

Additional support is available throughout the programme

For more information, please contact the project team via email at connections@marmaladetrust.org.

Volunteer for Christmas Cheer 2025

For the past 13 years, our volunteers have brought cheer and companionship to people who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.

Everyone is made to feel part of the Marmalade family, with a festive lunch in a pub or restaurant in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, or a doorstep visit from a friendly volunteer, subject to meeting eligibility criteria. Project members are those who feel particularly lonely at this time of year.

We will open for referrals and volunteer applications in early September. Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear about Christmas 2025 volunteering opportunities.

Volunteer stories: Meet Vicki

Our three step approach

Loneliness can often feel overwhelming and something out of our control, so it can be useful to have a starting point. To help you and others to feel less lonely we have framed it into three parts.
