Marmalade at Christmas #NotAlone

Bringing joy and companionship to people who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day

Christmas time usually conjures up joyful images of family and friends celebrating, exchanging gifts, excited chatter and delicious food. For some people however it can be a dreaded, sad and lonely time.

Marmalade Trust understands how difficult Christmas can be for someone who is struggling with loneliness. We don’t want anyone to spend Christmas Day alone if they don’t want to so we invite them to join us for a free festive lunch. A typical guest is someone who is vulnerable to loneliness, for example a person of an older age who may have few or no family or friends around.

Everyone who joins us is made to feel part of our Marmalade family and is supported by our network of friendly volunteers.  We currently hold our lunches in pubs or restaurants throughout Bristol, South Gloucestershire and the North Somerset region.

The 1500 club

An exclusive Club for companies to become part of Marmalade’s activities this Christmas. To join we ask that companies make a commitment to raise or donate £1500. This money will help us to bring joy to those feeling isolated and alone this Christmas.

£1,500 could allow Marmalade Trust to host a Christmas Day lunch at one of our selected restaurants and pubs for 15 people, who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone. Each guest is also provided with a hamper, transport to and from their home as well as pre and post Christmas support.

Why should I join the 1500 Club?

The money you raise or donate will help us continue our valuable work to address loneliness. Christmas time usually conjures up joyful images of family and friends celebrating, exchanging gifts, excited chatter and delicious food. For some people however, it can be a dreaded, sad and lonely time.

It’s important to understand that loneliness is experienced all through the year, and not just at Christmas, so we also offer support to our guests throughout the year to help them find friendship.

What does my company get in return?

Taking part in fundraising activities is fantastic for team building. Perhaps some people in your office may experience loneliness at times? You could plan activities that build staff trust and connection. This will not only make people feel less isolated, but it will also improve office morale.

If you would like your support to be publicly acknowledged we will happily share your generosity on our social media platforms and can add your company logo to our list of supporters on our website, which is great for PR! We have a lot of press interest in our Christmas Cheer events and often feature in local and national broadcasts and print so will have opportunities to mention our supporters. You will also be invited to join us on Christmas Day at the event you sponsor so that you can personally meet and chat to our guests on the day.

How to join to our 1500 Club?

Firstly, let us know you’d like to join the Club and support our activities this Christmas. We can help you develop a fundraising plan, and work out which fundraising activities you’d like to coordinate with your colleagues. You can contact Amy at amy.perrin@marmaladetrust.org who will be happy to discuss ideas.

But maybe you just want to get Christmas cracking? Start today by setting up your 1500 Club Company Just Giving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/marmalade-trust/donate Don’t forget to set the target at £1,500.

Next, why not find a team of Christmas Elves to help you in your office? And then come up with a fundraising plan together.

Some popular ideas you could consider include:

- Holding a weekend, or lunchtime sponsored Santa Run

- Running a Cake Sale and Raffle

- Organise an after work Mulled Wine and Mince Pie social event

- Hold an office Christmas Jumper day

We ask that all companies aim to reach the target by Friday 21 December.
